FREE MATH MAGIC TRICK: (use as you like)

Mentally Square Numbers Ending in 5:
Your friends will think you have become a genius overnight! (unless you tell them the trick)

To square a number that ends in 5, first multiply the tens digit by the next whole number. At the end of that product, attach the number 25. The 25 comes from the product of the two fives at the end.

Let's try a few.

Ex1: 15^2

first: Multiply 1 x 2 =2
second: Attach 25: this gives a final answer of 225.

Ex2: 65^2

first: multiply 6 x 7 = 42
second: Attach 25: this yields a final answer of 4225.

Ex3: 350 x 350 = 350^2

If we disregard the zeros on the end, this can be done just like the first two examples. Then we will place two zeros onto the end of our result to account for leaving them off at the beginning.

first: multiply 3 x 4 = 12
second: attach the 25 getting 1225
third: reattach the zeros onto the end yields a final answer of 122,500.

Ex4: 7.5 x 7.5 = 7.5^2

This trick will even work with decimals. All you have to do is forget about them until the very end, then place them in the final product as you would in normal multiplication, two spots left of the end.

first: multiply 7 x 8 = 56
second: attach 25 getting 5625
third: place the decimal point between the six and the two getting a final answer of 56.25.

*note: This answer can be checked using your common sense. Our original number was 7.5 which is a number between 7 and 8. So its SQUARE should be between the squares of 7 and 8 or between 49 and 64.
