Here is a nice detail of the top spires of a stone cathedral. Pay close attention to the use of triangles here. They definitely shoot ones eyes to the heavens which is what they are intended to do.

Again we see octagonal prisms topped with octagonal pyramids. Embellishment here is achieved with cylindrical columns, arches, parallel lines and stone crosses.
