PERIMETER is the distance around an object. We measure it in straight units of length like inches, feet, miles, centimeters, or meters.
(sample abbreviations: ft, in, cm, m)

 lake Loughry, perimeter=3 miles
Now AREA is the measure of the amount of flat surface and object covers.  To measure flat surface we use squares.  So our units will be things like square inches, square feet, square miles, square centimeters etc.
(sample abbreviations: sq.cm., in2, ft2)

the fuchia 'chessboard' area=196 sq.cm.
Finally, VOLUME is the amount of 3 dimensional space an object takes up. We use little cubes to measure volume. So the units of volume are things like cubic inches, cubic feet, cubic centimeters etc.
(sample abbreviations: cu.in., ft cubed, m3, mi3)
'rubic's cube', volume=27 cubic cm

Now test your understanding of these concepts by taking this small quiz.
If you get 100%, you are a
MASTER GEOMETER!

*Write down the concept being described in each. Is it PERIMETER, AREA, or VOLUME
